Trained as a sculptor, Zavada works primarily in bronze and other metals. Zavada studied under David Lobdell at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico, where she trained in the art of lost wax ceramic-shell casting. The bronze sculptures are editions of one-- cast directly from wax, paper, or wood originals.

Collage, photography, drawing, painting and printmaking are other areas of interest.
